Guardians of the Garden
The Guardians of the Garden are a group of children and adults who are leading and supporting others to develop our school grounds. The children have taken responsibility for the garden and grounds, they work with Lucille to decide what crops to grow and how we can make the grounds more enjoyable for all the children in the school.
Anyone can become a Guardian. They meet once a week at lunchtime and enjoy getting stuck in with jobs. They have recently created woodchip paths around the school and filled beds with compost.
As a school we are committed to environmental and sustainability issues and so one of the first things we did was construct compost and leaf mould bays. Our Guardians are now experts in mulching using cardboard and woodchip. They are able to share this with younger children ensuring a new team of Guardians will be ready to take over!
